Default Are there rules for striping?

Hi Everyone:

My brother began the restoration on a '67 convertible several years ago, working on it each year as money allowed. Unfortunately he passed away two years ago this month and never completed the project. I gathered up all the pieces and had the restoration completed by a reputable firm.

My question is in regards to striping. I believe the original car was a base Camaro, but would it be frowned upon in the Camaro and classic car community to add stripes to it? Or should I just leave it the way it is? I'd appreciate any input.

Here a link to a couple of pics of the car. (I tried embedding photos but all I saw was HTML code, sorry.)

Sorry to hear about your brother...i guess you should ask yourself....how did he see it finished? adding the stripes is no big deal....look at all the clones out there w/ SS stripes, Z/28 badges....do what you think he would have liked and more importantly ...what makes you happy....if it is just a base Coupe....it wont ake anything away from its value.

I would probably just put on the stripes I decided that the stripes look good so may as well add them.

Which stripes?

The hood and deck lind stripes are Z28 and 69 Z11/Z10 cars only. Could not be ordered separately on other cars. A lot of folks call them "SS stripes", but they aren't on an F-body (on a Chevelle, they are SS stripes).

The D91 bumblebee could have been ordered on any car from around March 67 on for 67 and 68 models. Even if your car is earlier, a bumblebee is a least "correct" for the model year. A white bumblebee would look nice on that car. I think some guys here have even started using the good quality 3M vinyl bumblebee stripe sticker with good results. The vinyl costs less than $100, and may be a good way to decide if you like the look.

Stripes kinda dress it up. I've even put a thin double pin strip that runs the length of the car...it's quite subtle.

Your car... you decide!

Rules? It's your car, you make the rules. What would your brother do?

Where were all of you guys the other day when I got my head taken off by someone on here for having the wrong stripes (69) on my 68? We weren't even talking stripes but rather wheels instead.

Anyway, I blew it off and agree, it's your car so stripe'er how you like'er.

That's exactly what I was afraid would happen. :-)

Thank you all for your input. It's hard to say what my brother would have done. He's got the Chevelle SS wheels on it, but they match the paint so well, the company that finished the restoration said they'd keep 'em on.

That being said, I do like the Bumblebee stripe suggestion ... especially if it was available. I like the SS stripe look more, but it may be too much considering it's not an SS.

As I noted, the D91 bumblebee stripe IS the SS stripe for 67. The rally stripes on the hood and decklid are not SS stripes...

Yep, my ignorance is just shining through for all to see. Not to mention my inability to correctly read responses.

Stripe it how you'd like it and get out there and enjoy cruising with the memory of your brother.

It is a plus if you stripe it like factory original but many people deviate from that.
