Default Headliner cork strip and sail panels

Hello,
I took the headliner out of my '69 so many years ago that I can't remember the correct way to attach the new one at the sail panels. I've scoured old threads and have some good information; but I still have a question:
I'm guessing from the memory in the old headliner that I fold the material over and staple or glue it to the cork strip screwed into the car on either side in the back.
But what hides the staples? Does the sail panel fit over the cork strip? Do I glue it on the back side of this strip, which would make the cork useless? I'm guessing that this strip has cork for a reason. My Fisher manual is way too general to cover this.

Thanks,
Dave

I haven't put mine back together yet so I don't know how well the glue/staples will put hold my new headliner on the cork strips but I do know the sail panel materials cover the strips.

Dave you are right, the sail panel covers the glue strip so any way you fasten the headliner to it, it will be covered up. Some guys use staples on the glue strip but I couldn't see staples holding much in the small amount of cork in that strip. My original headliner was just glued to that strip and so that is what I did.
When it came time to glue that part of the headliner I cut a flap in the headliner that would go around the glue strip. I then coated both sides of the glue strip with glue and just stretched and glued the headliner around the strip. I held it in place with the binder clips like the rest of the headliner until the glue setup.
I think the cork in the strip gives the glue better adhesion to the strip.

Thanks very much Roger for the detailed explanation. That is just what I was looking for to finally get the headliner back in place.
Now if I could only find the little white clips that held the dome light wires in place....

Cork Strip is for staples, not glue.

Thats the least of your worries, the little plastic tab things that grip the sail panels...dont ever loose those.

Have you used staples and how did it hold? If you used staples, what size were they and how did you install them?
I used the glue because that is the way it was originally and I can tell you the glue works great.

Glued my headliner to the cork strips.
Where the heck are you going to find teeny-tiny little staples and the teeny-tiny little staplegun to put them in?

I just couldn't see going through the hassle. And introducing holes through the material didn't sit well with me anyway.
