Hi all, I have a draw on my battery (new) that I cant figure out what is causing it...the Alt. is charging...there is nothing hooked up that I can think of.....the only things added to this car is an elect. fan (which has been acting up....turns on and off intermid.) and a radio which I have disconnected and the Horns have been un plugged....could it be the grounding of the fan?....when the fan cuts out, it also cuts my tach out.....could any of the grounds draw on the battery when its off? This car has no glove, trunk or engine comp lights....if I leave the car parked for 2 days, the battery goes from 12.75 to 11.25....I'm stumped fellas'...any input on to where i should begin? Thanks in advance.

At nighttime, remove a cable and insert between the battery post and cable, a light. This light will glow even with the slightest current draw.
Start unhooking everything until the light goes out, then you found the circuit drawing current. Usually, modern radios and ECM/PCM/BCM, clock, and any other newer electronic device will draw current for keep-alive memory.

I had a similar problem. I took all the fuses out and used a light like suggested to cross each circuit until I determine which circuit was drawing power.
If your fan is not on a relay you may have a problem where its drawing power through the thermostatic switch (if you have one of those). |
