I have a 95 Chevy G20 van. I went to start it up this morning, and as soon as I turn the ignition key, I hear a click...and thats it. All the usual dash lights came on and all seemed well, it just would'nt turn over. I measured the voltage on the Battery and got a 12.38v reading
Do you think it may be the starter?

I usually turn on headlights and attept to crank if they go out- battery is likely culprit and if the get slightly dimmer probably the starter both need further testing to confirm but it sounds like starter. If the headlights go out it may be shorted -I'd substitue good known battery and see if corrects this.

Battery post not tight. Loose wire at the starter. Load test the battery as already stated.
Has it given you any warnings prior to this? Or did this happen all of a sudden?

![]() I turn the key, and all I hear is a click sound coming from the front right side of the van right where the starter is. The lights don't dim any, the radio and power windows all work normally. the battery still measures 12.37 volts, everything else works fine. THis happened right out of the clear blue sky!

Can you get a screw driver and jump the two terminals on the solenoid/starter, if it turns over then turn the ignition on and jump the solenoid and it should start. But i would say yeah starter/solenoid is bad or has a bad connection.

As stated earlier, your battery is only 75% charged, that's the first place I would start to look for a problem.

umm at 12.38 volts its about 98.5% charged. May want to check the batteries in your calculator. And if he tried starting it and power was drawn for the lights and radio then you probably wouldn't be quite at full charge.
