Default new motor finally arrived

The new motor for my 68 finally arrived last night. Got it unpacked and dialed in the bell housing before putting on the stand. Only .003" TIR so no need for offset dowel pins - yea ! Sat some of the accy's on it for a quick photo op with my 14yo son, Jonathan. I really love the heft of the Proform valve covers.

Yes, this is sitting on my really old 3 leg 1000lbs stand for now. I'll move it to the 4 leg 1500lbs stand later today before I really start working on it. First task is to scuff and paint that chrome oil pan as it's just too damn shiny for my liking.

One thing I didn't realize is that late model GMPP roller cam blocks are not machined to accept mechanical fuel pumps. The outer opening and bolt pattern are there but the casting is not milled through. I had really wanted to stick with a mechanical pump but now I'm forced to go with an electric pump. My wife will soon be asking if Summit offers frequent buyer miles .

Motor was built by Phoenix Engine Rebuilders. Cost was $4500.00 USD delivered to my house. This is a slightly modified version of what they call their "gold night" roller motor.

Basic specs:

GMPP roller block w/4 bolt mains and 1 pc rear main -may be the same as ZZ4, not sure
10.75:1 cr Seal Power hypereuectic pistons
Eagle 4340 crank
Eagle 4340 rods
Comp Cams #XR288HR 540 lift roller cam
Pro Comp aluminum heads 64cc chambers, 190 runners, 2.02/1.60 stainless valves
Pro Comp intake (RPM air gap copy)
True roller timing chain
Sealed Power bearings and gaskets
425hp/450lbft

I'm adding the Proform valve covers, Holley 750 dp, Hooker headers, blueprinted HEI, and a bunch of other things. I'd estimate the "ready to run" motor ~$6500.00

Dayum, 6500$ ; 4500€ for me, is a really nice price. This again is giving me hope for my own 69' Camaro !
God bless this site

If I remove the pan it voids my warranty so I'm painting over the chrome. Followed steps to scuff and prep the chrome which was actually very easy. Just finished putting the self etching primer coat on and will apply two top coats of gloss black engine enamel this afternoon. So far I'm happy with the results but will know for sure tomorrow after drying all night and then doing a scratch test on it.
