Default 1994 3.4L starter

Has anyone replaced the starter on a V6 1994 camaro? I have tried to remove the one from my daughter's car and it seems that the Y-pipe has to be dropped to get it out. In addition, the connections for the solenoid face towards the front and the replacement starters face the rear. I have no reason to believe this isn't the original starter. Any comments? I have replaced many starters on different vehicles but not one this difficult. I am working with the car on ramps so space is tight.

Thanks

Rockauto shows a 'front' facing starter. and on some models, the exhaust does have to be dropped.

You might get a Haynes manual for make/model of car and read what it has to suggest.
If old starter has a heat shield, transfer it over to the new starter.

It can be done without dropping the ypipe, not easy but can be done.
