Default The car I practically grew up in-R.I.P.

1998 Dodge Stratus. We bought it brand new in 1998 and I was five years old, today the tranny as officially bit the dust (or so says the mechanic ). The car will shift hard, jerk, and make noise. It barely runs. So it is going to be parked and dad will get a good used car. I'll either strip it down for a dirt track car or use it for hauling stuff. But first-it will need some work. So many years, and memories have gone by and the car has been to every place we lived.

265,294 miles and it hardly has a pulse and is on it's death bed.

You have been wanting a car to work on. Get and fix it, get some books. Trannys are scarry but simple, but it will take 2/4 times. Bite the bullet go for it.

x3 on doing the tranny work yourself.

My first auto tans job was a TH350. I was 16 and yes, I screwed it up, but I learned a heck of a lot. My high school auto shop teacher (yes, they offered auto shop in school back then) came over a couple afternoons and helped correct my mistakes. Well worth the experience.

Good news, my dad was able to find another car, a 2002 Taurus for $3,500. Clean and in nice shape. I'll update you guys on it later. Until then, he has been driving my mom's car and we had to go somewhere today and I went to the door on the Dodge! lmao, reflexes.

Save the aluminum can money and stalk the local junk yards for a tranny. That would be cool for you to get it back to life. Hows the engine???

The engine is not far behind as far as mileage is concerned, but it is in good shape.
