Default sb to bb heater core change

hello
i am converting my sb 68 camaro non ac to a big block . my question is can i use the same heater box cover. they look the same except for the the location of the holes. and 2nd question how close to the crease do i place the heater core tube retainer. thanks charlie

Yes you can use the small block case. I had my inside and outside case on the table when I did mine. Just mounted the big block heater core then did some measuring and cut the hole for the tubes. Just make small cuts. Then slide the small cover over the tubes and marked the small cover,,then did the final cut on the ouside cover.

The small block clips that hold the heater core dont line up very good to the big block heater core. You will have to modify them to the core. Or matbe find the right clips. I did mine like 10 years ago.

if you can get measurements off of someone they are easy to do.iforget the measurements& my car is 30 min from me in a garage.go to harbor freight & buy or borrow a step drill bit makes job super easy.its harder to do with a step drill bit.get the big block kit that slides over the tubes & bang you are done

I did this mod last year. I was able to modify one of the retaining brackets fit the big block core. I was able to modify a valve cover hold down bracket (pressure spreader type) to work on the other end. It's pretty easy job if you are dealing with a console car.
