Default Stripped nut in hood repair

I have a stripped nut in my hood for the hood hinge. How can I repair this without ruining the paint on the outside of the hood?

Someone had that same issue a few months ago. One of the ideas was to cut a small window next to the nut, take it out and put a regular nut inside. That's OK if you want to cut a hole in the support, but I wouldn't want to weaken that structure.

You could drill/tap to the next size, possibly even a metric size.

My term would be very carefully. Use a heli coil, or thread sert. DON'T hit the hood.
