Any ideas on a cam for my 406 it has late model LT1 rods with flat top pistons and a set of 441 heads bowl cut to 2.02 intakes 76CC I think it makes about 9.3to1 compression. Comp cams springs No porting. I want to use stock convertor (the engine is balanced with the flexpate), and Edelbrock RPM airgap and about 650 CFM Holley I like to make real good torque. It is going into my 68 Camaro with Th400 a 336 rear. Any Ideas, comments, help would be apreciated.

Please consider a CC 268HE or maybe the 270 Magnum b/c at you CR, that's about what will work good for your motor, imho..
Either one should have GREAT low to mid rpm grunt, but still be able to run up above 5,500 rpm!! Anybody else?? Please chime right in.. pdq67 |

I second the Comp 268HE. Should pull strong till 5300 or so. Would work killer with the 3.36's and stock converter. I would stick with some 1 5/8" headers as well. Can you say BURNOUT!

Edd,
I've got 2 dyno sheets in front of me for a 406 and a 415 similar to yours. The 406 is 9.5:1 stock iron Vortec heads an Edelbrock RPM air gap intake, 1 5/8 Hedman headers with 2 1/2" exhaust and a 750 Holley. Using a Lunati hydraulic flat tappet cam that is 230/230 @ .050, .455/.455 lift and 114 degree lobe seperation this motor peaked 427 hp @ 5100 and torque peaked 525 @ 3500. At 2400 the torque was still 472 and at 5500 it was 405, hp at 2400 was 216 and at 5500 it was 421. From 3000 to 4400 it made over 500 ft lbs of torque. Not bad. The 415 had 9:1 used World products dual plane, an 870 Holley, 1 3/4 Hooker headers, Iron Motown 220 cc heads and made 482 hp @ 5800, 545 ft lbs torque @ 3800. At 4900 it was still making 500 ft lbs of torque! It used a Crane mechanical flat tappet 244/252, .516/.525 lift and 106 degrees lobe seperation. [ 06-22-2004, 07:48 PM: Message edited by: SY1 ] |

268HE sounds good that is what the machine shop also said would work well. I plan on either 670 Holley Street Avenger or 650 Vac Secondary. I'm going to retain the 1-5/8" headers going into Flowmaster American Thunder already on car. Thanks guys! For the advice.

Id be more inclined to recomend a 268XE. IT has more exhaust duration over the High-energy design. Something the 441 heads could use.
