Well,
My car used to look like the driver (me) weighed 750 lbs, because it would lean to the driver's side. I'm sure I know the answer before I ask, but it's a little frustrating. I did the JCW 3 leaf swap along with new poly front eye bushings, new shackles with poly bushings, new KYB's, and poly leaf pads. The rear end sits almost an inch higher on each side, but still leans to the left. The same as it did before. I'm assuming I have a front spring throwing it off. but for the right side rear to sit higher than the left rear would mean a right front spring is higher? right? I noticed the left front spring has two of those spacers added, and the right side has one. Maybe that is my problem? I guess I'll find out soon enough, I have the new front springs, new front shocks, new IROC steering box, new 31011 coupler, but am waiting on poly front end kit w/ tie-rods, etc. and waiting on poly sub-frame bushings. So by this weekend hopefully will be replacing all up front too. I hope this will fix it, but any ideas on what else could cause that lean?

Did you tighten everything up when the car was on the ground? That's critical. Also, if it's too high on the passenger side that tells me that the passenger side coil is not seated properly. I would first even up those spacers or take them out all together and see how she sits. Many threads exist on how to install and index/clock the ft coils. Also, make sure the springs are in right-side-up. Goodluck!

I did tighten everything after many bounces, I'm convinced its in the front.
I am going to replace everything over the next week or so (however long it takes me) up front. But how do I know which is up or down on the new front springs? They do look different from top to bottom. I'll go search indexing the front coils, thanks for heads up

This won't make you feel any better, sorry
.... but I still have a similar problem on my coupe. The car leans to the front drivers side. I replaced shocks, coil springs, chassis mounts, all the front and rear bushes, cushions, top and bottom ball joints, pitman arm, end links, tie rod sleeves etc. Does not leave much, well the problem was and still is not solved. I did change one leaf spring and that helped a lot. I think I need a good pair of matching leaf springs to fix mine, a real pain in the butt because it is quite noticeable when you are in the car, looks ok when not in it!

right rear up means left front down ...the two spacers in drivers front coils is a clue. front springs are cheap and for better handling need to be a lot heavier then the stock ones anyway

Easy enough the verify. Pull the front suspension out of the equation. Lift the front, pop the front tires off, set two of your jack stands to identical height (or just take the cradles out and use the foot), put one under each side of the front frame across from one another, lower the car onto the stands, and take a look.

If and when you reinstall the coils they are located using the upper spring pocket, not the hole in the lower control arm. The hole is for drainage only. A common installation mistake.

The driver side lean is often an issue on the driver side front.
Even with new leafs and new coils, my 69 still leaned. So, when I cut my coils last week to get the stance down a little, I cut just a little less off the driver side coil. Driver side coil cutoff at top in this pic: ![]() Driver side coil cutoff on top of passenger side cutoff: ![]() Just that little bit of difference was enough to level my car side to side within 1/4 inch. Some guys here have used a thin spacer under the driver side coil spring to level the car (should be able to search "coil spring" with posts by "CFunk" to find some pics of the car). The spacer used was one like this: ![]()

I want to lower the front of my big block 69 about 1". Can you tell me how much you cut off verses how much it dropped? I'm using BB springs. Thanks, Mike |

Steiner, I like your thinking about the jack stands. Will try that. Good way to rule things out. Below is a photo showing it facing up hill on my driveway, and that really accentuates the issue.

I REALLY hope its not the rear. It leaned before the rear replacements, and still leans after.

One tip while your waiting for your new springs ......take a drop-light and place it next to the ft. drivers coil spring. Next, take a piece of hard wire (coat hanger thickness) and fish it down through the little site-hole which is located right above where the top of your coil spring is positioned (it's much easier to see on the pass side). Now position yourself in the front of the car and look through the subframe, where the bumper bracket is connected, and locate that wire. Is the top-end of the coil right next to the wire? Based on all of the threads that I've read, that's where the coil needs to end. Someone please chime-in if I'm wrong. Goodluck!

Top end of the spring positioned with the end of the wind visible in the inspection hole is correct; last couple of times I have done this, I painted a dab of bright orange paint on the end of the spring to make it more visible.
