Default Oil pump

Can the intermediate oil pump shaft, (between oil pump and shaft) be changed from the top of the engine or does the pan have to be dropped? It is a first gen big block. Thanks

It can be changed from the top and cross your fingers the plastic clip keeping the two shafts aligned does not break, otherwise, the pan has to come off.

fi,
The one with the metal sleeve has to be installed from the bottom, before the pump is bolted on.
