Hello TC! I have a 68' Camaro rs and was curious what the correct color trunk splatter paint is. My car was manufactured in the Los Angeles plant and I had a local Camaro authority tell me that they used a different type or color splatter paint at the California plant. Is this true? What really is the correct color for this car? Thanks for any help

Should be black-aqua. I repainted mine recently using Eastwood's aerosol and it turned out great IMO;

Oh, btw, I also went over the black-aqua with eastwood's diamond clear coat a couple times.

1700 mile 68 LOS Built Trunk. This was the 68 DANA from Hawaii.
![]() Also check with your GM parts counter, they still have the GM Trunk Splatter aerosol. I have the GM number at home and when i get back I will post it but I would think they could pull it up for you. I want to say NPD sells it as well and you can get the number off the picture in the catalog on page 27 of their online catalog

Hawaiian, it looks like huge splatters. Like that kind of splatter you wouldn't get out of an aerosol can. Does it look that way in person? Like the spread and scale of that splatter can only probably be had from a gun?

Hawaiian, Mine looks similar to this as well. Maybe this is what they refer to as LOS built cars having a different splatter color. Most say "correct" is black & aqua, but I think this looks like black & grey. Is that the original finish?

In one of our fellow member's (RaceHome) book "How to restore your Camaro" he describes the LOS trunk splatter as more stringy then the round speckles used on the NOR cars. Also the base was a darker color with a rough texture. The book says this type splatter isn't available in spray cans. So not sure where or if someone would find it.

VJ, Thanks for the info. The splatter is more of a stringy type that I'm starting to realize is going to be hard to find or duplicate. I only need to touch up a small area too! I guess I could always re-shoot the entire trunk with regular blk & aqua splatter. Not original, but I would assume acceptable considering the original cant be replicated.

The splatter was shot using a schutz type gun. See if Jerry at CHP has any.

Here is a pic of a customer car that stopped by our store recently with the black/aqua trunk paint.
