Maybe not quite the right forum but I figured most everyone here has dealt with switch removal. So I did the search....found the solution in the electrical forum.....paper clip in the hole....turn key to the left. Problem is I ain't got the key. Car was half apart when I bought it(guy lost interest/decided there was too much work) and there was no motor or tranny....so it wasn't even an issue. Tried small screwdriver in place of key....no joy.
So....do I have any options here?? I don't necessarily care about the switch.....can get another....but I don't want to tear up the dash. I got enough work to do on her without making more!! Thanks Mark

That's always a possibility. Just hoping for a cheaper more "me supply the elbow grease" solution!!
Thanks Mark I just did another search and found a thread from 2006. Mentioned drilling it out. Also sounds like maybe I can unscrew the bezel till it hits whatever it is that stops it, then do a little bending and prying on it. Like I said....not too concerned about damaging it......still open to any other suggestions....

If the door lock cylinder is there and matches the ignition you can take it to a locksmith or a Chevy dealer and have a key made.

I think you are looking to replace it without damaging the dash. Speaking from experience, I made the mistake years ago of trying to unscrew it from the front with pliers and butchered the dash pretty good. I have heard people say to put masking tape all around it before trying to remove it and such, but the key to these switches is getting the removal tool kit. $20 I think for the ignition one, and you just unscrew it and replace the whole ignition switch with a new one.
Same goes for the headlight and wiper bezels. -shoe

I drilled straight down the lock cylinder until it just fell out. It takes some work but you will eventually get it. I didn't screw up my dash either. Just be careful. You will have to buy a new ignition switch and lock cylinder but they cost $13 and $8 at autozone.

If you want to have some fun, you can always make your own key... A friend use to repo cars. He'd just put a blank in the lock cylinder, wiggle it some, check for scratches and marks, file a bit, repeat. Eventually, it opens the lock. The hard part is getting the blank...
