Ok i was planning in rebuilding my 700r4 for performence, but after getting info from a few people the best idea sounds like i should put in a TH400. my question is what modification need to be made(shorter drive shaft, crossmember ect.?) by the way it is an 87 coupe. also where is the best place to find one of these to rebuild or is it cheaper to buy one that is already rebuilt?
thanks in advance

Bad advice. Is your engine that powerful (450+ HP)? Why would you want to lose a gear when your 700R-4 can be beefed up for the same price?

ok i would like to keep my 700r4 because it has OD and this is and every day driver but i would be willing to change it if a 350 or 400 was better. is there a way to rebuild the 700r4 that would handle the power and not cost to much. how much would that cost to rebuild the 700r4? i have not completed my engine yet it will be between 350 and 400 hp. if anyone has any ideas for me i would greatly appreciate it and would you tell me how much all of this would cost if you could. thanks

Forget the TH-350. Only reason to use it would be if you already had one. A TH400 would only cost slightly more, but is an order of magnituder better as far as durability. See next posting for 700R4 breakdown, but I have a hard time believing Kevin could have a 700R4 built for the same price. I looked into it quite a bit, and even supplying my own tranny, many shops wanted around $1200 bucks just to install all the parts. And parts alone will run you a few hundred. You would need 1) New clutch packs 2) New or modified valve body, 3) New bands 4) Corvette servo, 5) Torque converter 6) Pump, 7) Somebody to do all the work unless you happen to be a gifted tranny expert. Wanna make a 700R4 last? You can, but it's gonna cost.
