I'm going to have to pull the oil pan on the big block in my boat, and I was wondering if these 1-piece gaskets offer any more leak protection over the regular gasket sets. Has anyone else used them with success? I hate having an oily bilge!

If you do a search here and Team Chevelle you'll find good results and some bad results.
http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...ghlight=felpro The best one piece BBC oil pan gasket seems to be the Mr Gasket (PN 6663G) but they have been backordered since Feb. I hate pan leaks too

I run the gasket in my 68 camaro with a 454 and the gasket hasn't leaked in two years and is not showing any sign of any. That is really the way to go these days.

I used the one piece on my 350 after getting some advice from friends with big blocks who have run the felpro one piece for several years with no leaking. So far... so good for me. Put a generous amount of black silicone where the gasket goes around the timing cover and rear, it even says it in the directions. The kit comes with longer bolts due to the thickness of the gasket.

All the time, every motor I tear down will have a Felpro Blue gasket in it. Accept nothing else. And you can reuse it more that a couple of times, just make sure you put a dab of RTV in each corner. Don't try to over tighten. It has spacers in the gasket to prevent this.

I'm back to using the four-piece gasket kits with Grey RTV on both sides of all four pieces. No problems.
I've had problems with the one-piecers, both BB and SB. I theorize that the integral washers used to prevent over-tightening can also prevent the front and back of the pan from sealing. They prevent the needed 'squeeze' for the end pieces. With all the variations of the pans themselves, seems some applications will need more tightening than others. FWIW |

I think the one piece pan gaskets are the best things since sliced bread.

I didn't like how thick they were and had to really force the pan on to get the bolts to reach. After about a year the pan started to leak at both ends and after repeated attempts to retighten and installing new conventional gaskets I ended up putting on a new oil pan as the old one was tweeked.

Been reading with some interest the use of the one piece gasket. I've got to replace this gasket as it's leaking outta the proverbial rear...and had considered with this Felpro one piece (esp after the # who had pos comments on its use, eh?), with the dabs in the right places of course. Seems like the maj really have had success, so will go with this application this week.
I've heard that many will over tighten the bolts, causing the lip of the pan to warp...thus causing an imperfect fit when putting on the fresh one. capt |

All the race engines I build have 1 pc oil pan gaskets. These engines are dry sump engines and run in vacuum in the crankcase. No leaking problems with vacuum .All my wet sump engines BBC and SBC I use 1 pc oil pan gaskets and have no more corner seepage problems and keep the sealer down to a minimun. The design keeps the installer from over tightning the fastners ,so no more bent oil pan rails.

Hey Dean, Are you using a torque wrench or just an experienced feel? If you are using a torque wrench how much?

Hi Mickey
No torque wrench.Just tighten to the steel inserts .You can feel when its tight. The end bolts are 5/16 and would be 25-30 ft lbs and the rest are 1/4 inch bolts and would be in inch lbs. Good luck |
