Default 1970 Original Owner Chevelle SS 396/350 HP speed

Went and looked at 1970 Chevelle SS 396/350 HP original owner coupe car last night. This car is Dark Gray Metallic with Red interior, 4speed Bench Seat no options. Car retains everything original but the waterpump and is showing 52,000 miles. The car has had one repaint long ago. The backseat looks unused. Front seat is ripped headliner is bad as the package tray is also. The only mod being a Hurst shifter. Car has normal rust at the bottom of the front fenders and rear quarter panels. The worst being about 5 to 6 inchs. The owner doesn't have any Doc.s window sticker protector plate ect. I'm sure the build sheet is there. Everyone in the county knows about the car so theres no doubt to the owners statements. The car just looks like a car that hasnt been touched in 40 years but needs alot to be a nice driver. Anyway "What's it worth"

You need some pics and more info to come up with anything close to a true value. Maybe 152,000 miles with how the car sounds and interior wear. Is the car road worthy? Was it repainted long ago due to an accident? Pictures and more info needed IMO. Is he asking you to make an offer or does he have a price to buy it now?

The mileage is correct. The repaint was due to a scrap on the rt quarter so it was suggested to the owner to spray the whole car. The car has been driven about once a month down the road but has not been licensed since 1989. It was started for us and sounded good. The owner wanted us to give him an opinon of what is should be worth. He had no buy it now price. Will get some pictures from my friend and post asap.

That is a unique color combo and would think today it would be popular
Without seeing the rust area if someone could do a lot of the work and its all there correct (engine, etc) I could see hitting the 20K mark but just my $.02
A desirable cowl ind. Chevelle car with Big Block engine, and add in a neat paint-interior combo drives the value.

I would ask 15k and go from there. While a matching numbers 396 is nice (I had one and was dumb enough to let it go) it will not not bring the stupid money a LS6 car will, especially since it is a bench seat car with no A/C.

While you can veryify its an SS car since it is local to you, with known history, the next guy (and there is always a next guy) probably will not be able to. So you really need to find that build sheet because without proper documentation it is very hard to prove the car is an SS. You could get a BBC in a regular chevelle(although rare) so the presence of a BBC in the car doesn't prove anything and since you can't tell from the VIN or Trim Tag the car was an SS you really need documentation. Are the lower control arms boxed?

Find that build sheet or some other supporting documentation otherwise its a nice looking original car and you need to price it accordingly. You also need to verify the eng numbers and the partial VIN on by the oil filter. Same with the transmission. L34 cars were the most plentiful of all the SS's that year although that color combo is probably a little on the rare side. I am sure an internet search will turn up some useful data for you to use when considering this car.

Lower control arms are boxed. The owner does have the original "bill of sale" with the car.

And the ones not mentioned. While you are looking in known places for the sheet pull up the back seat and examine the floors there too.
