Truck carriers have a smaller pinion shaft diameter.

There is no such thing as too much power...The problem is not enough traction!!

How does the pinion shaft diameter effect the carrier or spool? Is the mounting flange for the crown gear on a different offset? Can you only tell them apart by the pinion shaft diameter?

The ring gear flange offset is different. Everything else is pretty much the same. If you try to use a truck differential in a car rear end you have to do some shimming and sometimes some grinding to make it fit. Same thing if you go the other way.

A friend has a Vega drag car with a 12 bolt. We assumed it had a spool, but turns out, only has a posi. We are not sure which spool to buy. Because we have no history on this diff. Not sure if it is a cut down truck or car diff. How else can we tell?

The 12 bolt truck rear end has a cover that is sort of shaped like a diamond on it's side. The car 12 bolt has a cover that is mosly round. If it has the Eaton Posi then there will be a casting number on the right side next to the bearing. Let me know what this number is and I can tell you if it's a truck or car.

This is the car 12 bolt.
