I notice on my newer car, the emblems, while not metal, are held on with foam adhesive.
Since my car is in need of a paint job some day, I was hoping to shave the pins off my emblems and put them on with adhesive so as not to be putting permanent holes in the car. 1. Anyone ever done this? 2. What type of foam did you end up with? Tips tricks? Thank you!!

I used some that I bought from Lowe's. It's 3M, red on one side, grey on the other and extremely gummy. I think on the package it says "for outdoor use". I applied it to the CAMARO scripts, cut the excess of with an exacto knife and then peeled and stuck them. It worked very well.

I have my body emblems, except the dumby fins on the side stuck on with RTV silcone...I still have the holes.
I put a little into the holes and wipe around the stems, put 3 or 4 very small spots on the emblem..press into place, pull off to make sure the ones on the back of the emblem actuallt touch the car...wipe them a little, put the emblem on then lean the broom head against the emblem over night... My reaoning is that IF some street kid with no respect wants to flick the emeblem as a survener, it will come off with negitable panel/paint damage. I have never lost one in 200K miles of daily driving.

One of my emblems was put on that way. I was surprised when I pulled it, I had no idea and I could never tell until I removed it. I am going to have decide how I will mount the emblems as some of the stems are broken which is why they were mounted with the foam. Good to know there are options for broken emblems.

A good automotive paint supply store should carry 3M's "Nameplate Repair Tape". It's OEM approved. It comes on a roll .23" x 5 yds. Part# 06385. I've used it for all kinds of emblems.

Patrick, I used the 3M stuff - got it at the local Discount (advance) auto.
Double sided tape - grey to black in color - looks good, thin and is hardly noticable. Rob

3M also makes an adhesion promoter, comes in a small packet, we use it in the body shop when 2 sided tape is used. 3M #06396 - put it on the body let dry and don't be wrong on placement of emblem or moulding. I used it to put the side mlds on my 68 3 yrs still there.

I tried to use emblem tape but i found it impossible to cut out in the scripts. Used emblem glue and was very satisfied.

Another RTV user - works great. Cut off the pins, spread RTV on the back of the emblem, hold in place with 3M blue painter's tape overnight.
