Default Window crank hits chrome strip of door panel?

I installed ned door panels in my 69. The car had deluxe interior originally, but I installed the standard panels. My old and new window crank handles scrape the chrome strip on the way by when lowering or raising the window. It seems like I need more of an arch on the handle for clearance. I can't seem to get the panel in any closer to the sheet metal.
Has anyone run into this before? What's the cure?

I believe?? you may have front window cranks on the rear windows....rear ones have a higher arch to them to alow for the chrome moldings.

Search around on this site, but I "believe" the standard interior and deluxe interior used different window crank mechanisms. Not the handle, but the part that the handle attaches to.

I've heard that for the front. but didn't think there was a difference in the rear.

Well, since you said you installed new door panels I assumed you were talking about the fronts, unless your car is a 4 door?

I have the delux interior, all 4 window handes are identical
Which happen to be identical to Aussie GM Holden HQ and I believe HK, HT and maybe HZ.

I had this problem on a 69 i had. I found the some handles had more arch than others. I tired various used ones from my parts collection. The old original pitted ones I had laying around fit while other aftermarket ones did not. I actually ended up using a set from autozone HELP section. They had the best arc, and would clear the chrome trim. They still rubbed the trim, but the others i tried hit the trim, not allowing you to turn the handle. I put a little heat from a heat gun on the new handle & gently bent it outward just a tad more- and all was good. Hope this helps. Scott

Check the Classic Ind catalog, they show 2 styles of window cranks. I don't know how factory orig were but you can get cranks for std panels and cranks for dlx panels that have a wider curve in them. It's not a front seat, back seat thing.

I'm guessing you change regulators when you switched door panels... The dlx regulators have a longer post which would cause the cranks to be too far away from the std panels.

Kinda sounds like your panel isn't fitting properly, maybe walk us all through everything you changed when swapping the panels and someone will catch what's wrong...

Wanna hear my window crank story?
Sure you do.
In 1976 I was just a patrolman on my PD. Under City Hall was the Police Chief's parking stall with his city-supplied new police-package Nova.
My door handle knobs were yellowing by then. What did I see in the Nova? Perfectly clean and tinted transparent blue door handles that were identical to mine. Sooooo, I parked my car next to it in the Mayors spot and swapped handles one by one. (it was 3:00am) Still have them. They are just like new.
Don't tell anyone.

And why yours don't fit? Haven't have a clue.

Fred, the Chief called...said he's still drivin the Nova and WANTS HIS HANDLES BACK !

Rick's claim 69 rear handles are different (more arch) than fronts....

http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-w...rter-1969.html

IN-181 is the number for the clear knob front handles.

Gar, it's OK now. The statute of limitations has expired.
