Default 327ci White Smoke from exhaust

I have noticed over the last couple of months my 67 Camaro RS 327 2 barrel turbo hydromatic has been losing or burning transmission fluid. I can't figure out where it is going . The tranny is clean and none on the floor. Here is the real kicker. I had the engine running putting tranny fluid in it. I made the mistake of over filling it. It started to blow white smoke from the tail pipe real bad. I drove it around a little but it intermittently kept smoking especially when I came to a stop. I came home and drained some of the fluid out. Since then have not seen any smoke. Can anyone tell me if there is any relationship between the engine and trans that would cause this or what is happening to the tranny fluid I am losing?

Vacuum diaphram in the modulator ruptured? It connects to the intake.

There is a relationship. Its the vacuum line that connects your intake manifold vacuum to your transmissions modulator valve. If the trans modulator diaphragm is ruptured..engine vacuum will draw trans fluid up the line and will be burned off in your combustion chambers and exited out your exhaust tail pipes.

My guess too. I had a 63 Ranchero in college that did this. When you would stop vacuum would suck trans fluid through the diaphragm and taking off would leave a big cloud of white smoke.

Thanks, for the info. This was a really strange one. It sounds like it will be pretty easy to fix. Can you tell me if this diaphram is located on top by the manifold or on the trasmission? Is there a way to check to see if it is ruptured?

That explains the excessive use of tranny fluid over the past couple of months too..

Screws into the trans. Should be easy to reach under the car.

I make a mistake in my initial post. I said it was a hydromatic tranny it is acually a powerglide. Does all the feedback still apply even though it is a powerglide?

I went to Rock Auto and the only part I saw that sounds like it is called a modulator and it is $13.99. Is this the part I need?

We thought you meant powerglide so I think all is well. The modulator looks kind of like the vac advance can. Follow the metal vacuum line down from the intake in back of the carb to the modulator at the trans.

Thanks to all for the help, especially Melrose who sent the picture. I will change the modulator out and get back on the road. This time not getting embarrassed at the stop lights when I step on the gas.
