The dimensions referencing body inch-lines in the AIM won't help you unless the car is set up on a surface plate, registered to the original design dimensional datums.

Best to get the dimensions you need from another correctly-built car or use a template from a vendor.

Hi John what would be an example of a template from a vendor? I didn't know you could get teplates for emblem placement. I am looking to replace displacement emblems with 69 Z28 emblems. Sory to hi-jack this thread but it seemed to be the same question as mine. I started another thread if you want to reply there.

The '69 Z/28 fender emblem has its horizontal centerline aligned with the horizontal centerline through the marker light; photo of my original below.

and the other bades are also...
BUT be very carefull abut taking the line off the marker light....these are mounted into slots that can adjust the level of the light a couple mms....It may appear straight, but if it is not, and u take the line off that...it will be wrong
Take the line off the high piont of the fender,
Again this can be an issue...
IF that fende has ever been repaired in that area, 9 times out of 10 the body line has been assumed to be rounded, and not continued thru the full length of the car...
If one rubs this area of a orginal and a repaired you will still feel the defined line on the orginal.
u can use a laser light on the fender to get the line...and check the marker light alignment.
A builders chalk string line alway just as good..easier to.
Do not take the line full length of the car...chances are the fender is out a smiggen and that smuggen can get to a bigger smiggen by the time u get to the end of the fender.

Chances are when u drill the holes u will still be off a little...but will fine one hole is spot on, widen the other so lines up...1/2 mm makes a huge difference.
