Default Help with interchange 10 bolt 8.5 posi unit

Came across a guy that is parting out a 96 Caprice cop car that has a 8.5 posi in it. Will it fit in a 81 camaro 10 bolt housing and are the axles the same spline? Thanks

This rear end will be wider and it has the wrong suspension parts on it. You can cut off all of the suspension brackets and weld on leaf spring perches to make it fit. The bolt pattern for the wheels will be 5 on 5 instead of 5 on 4 3/4, so Camaro wheels won't bolt on. This rear end will also have the Auburn differential. Because this is a police car it will have a lot of miles on it, and the Auburn will probably be worn out or very close to it. They can not be rebuilt. It will have 30 spline axles, and the Camaro had 28 spline axles.
