Default Ralley stripe dimensions - 69 Camaro

Hi, my name is Leixe, I am new to the forum. My husband and I (mainly my husband) are working on restoring a Z28 69 Camaro for me. I am planning on painting it black with cortez silver ralley stripes. I currently have it in the body shop awaiting paint. Does anyone know the correct dimensions of the ralley stripes, including pin stripe widths and gap between pin stripes and stripes. Thanks

Hi Lexie here is a diagram for the 69 Z 28 Stripes. Outer pinstripe should be 9/32's wide and the gap between the pinstripe and the wide stripe is 9/32's. Use the lower diagram as the top is for a '67 or '68.

I used the Stencils and stripes kit and it needed to be modified quite a bit. The only usable parts were the rounded corner parts that go on the cowl and the rear panel. The rest of the stripe get laid out by hand using tape. Also note that in the kit it says that one of the stripes on the rear is wider than the other. I made mine the same width. Also note that you should have the emblems in place to make sure everything is in the correct spot.

A few questions are. Did you car come with stripes? If so you can use the old stripes as a template. If not are you going with the late or early design. Early Z 28's came with a '68 rear spoiler and '68 rear stripes that are closer together on the rear deck. The later design with the '69 spoiler had the stripes moved wider apart.

I will check and see if my shop took pictures of the stripe laid out on the car. Also note that my shop told me that it was much tougher and time consuming that originally thought, which added conciderable cost and time to the project. The better prepared you are or if the shop has done these stripes before will greatly reduce the cost to apply them. The entire car needs th get masked off several times in the process and also parts need to be removed once the stripes are laid out, ie; the hood, cowl, trnunk lid and header panel. I think you could paint the car with those parts on, but my shop thought they could do a better job removing them.

Good luck.

If you want to know what just one car looked like originally here's a link to James' survivor. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/568034888OhHzjB You can clean the edges up if you are not trying to obtain 100% originality. As you are shooting your stripes silver it is apparent you are not. Many stripes are done incorrectly, in the jambs and dimensionally. And if an original D80 car or not. Do your research, as many repaints are not good reference.

The diamensions above do not match the information in the AIM. (I don't think they match his car either) Aim shows outer pinstripe to be .25 and gap between to be .38.

Hey Jeff you are correct. I wonder where I got that info from? I think that the Stencil kit shows the same diagram as the AIM. Also some of the links posted show some really great detail and information. I wish I would have done the search before doing my stripes. I won't know until I measure mine, but at a glance they look correct.

9/32 sounds about the right size for the pinstripes on the fenders of my RS. Option code D96. Don't know if that's where or not. The pics of your car look to be the correct dimensions for the stripes on the hood and deck.
