I have a 750 dbl Holley and it has always seemed to need to be adjusted if the car sat for more than a week or so. I'm going through the motor and have read that the 800 AVS Eddy was just as good a performer and less hassle.
Anyone have any input??????

IMHO and I'm sure there will be many opinions on this subject, No comparison between Holley and Eddy. Holley outperforms, outlasts in all categories. I have a 870 Holley Street Avenger on my BBC and it is trouble free.

i've heard the Avengers are really good also. I have tried to make the Holley work and had a couple of gus who said they knew what they were doing and the car ran great for a couple of weeks, then it just went south and needed to be readjusted. It was probably me and not the carb.

I would think they both must be pretty good? However I run a Holly 670. I put it on last summer and it runs just as good as when I put her on.

I have an 830DP Holley on my 406, the engine was built in 1998 & dyno tuned then. When I sold my old car I kept the engine as it was going into my new car. I ran it in the new car exactly as it came out of the old car for a couple of years & when it was dyno tuned it was still running great so after 12 years I have had no drama's with my Holley. I have had it re-dyno'd to suit my new cam & heads in the last 12 months & I am sure it will give me many more reliable years.
Cant give an opinion on the Edelbrock as I have never had one.

I don't care what carb you are using, if the engine runs different after sitting a week and nothing has been touched there are unsolved issues. Could be ignition, carb, fuel pump, vacuum or any number of problems...

Both are good carbs, I have a 850 DP on my 468 and it has worked flawless for 2 years now. Once a Holley is jetted, set up and adjusted there really isn't much to get out of tune. I had an Edelbroock (basically a Carter) on my Firebird 400, great carb, with all of the tuning aids (needles, springs and jets) you can really get them dialed in to your specific engine, it too was a good carb and I never had any issues with it either. I agree with Dennis, something else is going on with your engine.

Both are probably as good as the other but I'm a Holley person and have been since 68 - Very easy to work and modify or replace parts for - if you ever have to - Aside from replacing Metering and Bowl Gaskets, I've never had to replace a Holley part - That how good they are ;o)

I've had an eddy carb before and it was whatever really, It was my first fourbarrel carb and didn't give me too many problems. I had some extra money and I dished out for a holley street avenger and I don't think I'll ever go back to an edelbrock. My car sat idle for a few months and it started and drove just fine, no problems.

I run a 670 Holley Street Avenger on my 396 and I have never had to make any adjustments in over two years...
I started with a Holley 750 vac/sec (3310) and I just didn't feel that the motor ran it's best, so I decided to replace it with the 670 street avenger, plus the car will never see the race track...With my combo the 396 ran a heck of a lot better with the 670 than with the 750...

Those one time Carter carbs have always been simplicity city and this is its strength in that you put 'em on and run. And this is where Holley has them beat hands down as Holleys, while not infinitely adjustable, have such a wide range of adjustment that they can be wrung out to get max performance for almost any setup. |

I had a Holley 700DP that never ran the same twice. Replaced it with a Demon 650 That ran great for a long time UNTIL the dreaded E85 fuel. That crap S**ks.
