Hello,
My name is Dan Schmalz and I'm putting together a website called automobius.com that complies car data with pictures. I've done entries for some 1969 Camaros, but I am wondering if anyone out there can tell me more about the number of Camaro models available in 1969? Specifically, which body styles were the 6 cylinder engine available in? Was it a limited amount? Could a SS or an RS get the 6 cylinder engine? Here are the entries I have for 1969 models so far, if you see anything inaccurate or can add anything, please feel free. The data is completely editable (it gets sent to an editor first though). Thanks. http://www.automobius.com/vehicle/19...-camaro-ss-l78 http://www.automobius.com/vehicle/19...-camaro-ss-l89 http://www.automobius.com/vehicle/19...let-camaro-z28 |

Dan your best bet for factual info. on 1st generation camaros is www.camaros.org they maintain the most complete data on the building of these early camaros. Its a privately owned website and its officers are EXTREMELY knowledgeable, some of them actually worked in the Camaro plants during the early years. FYI, Chev and GM have NO records that can assist you, so hop over to CRG and read thru their data. We enjoy the CRG folks that comment in the threads here in Team Camaro but FYI again, CRG is totally private and completely on its own. We refer folks over there alot.
There are also some other folks here in TC that maintain private data bases of their own and they may or may not be willing to share their data. Hope this helps.

to answer your questions:
Specifically, which body styles were the 6 cylinder engine available in? both coupe and convertible Was it a limited amount? no Could a SS or an RS get the 6 cylinder engine? SS no, RS yes. RS was an appearance (NOT performance) OPTION on both the coupe and convertible. The car had many OPTIONS available, so you could get a 6 cylinder powered car with nearly ALL options ... RS convertible with a 4 speed and air conditioning with tilt wheel, AM-FM stereo radio and deluxe interior with disc brakes. The only options off the top of my head that could not be ordered with the 6 cylinder is the gauge /tach package and the cowl induction hood. Hope that helps |

Thanks for the help guys. I will check out camaros.org. Interesting about the RS information, so basically the 1969 6 cylinder would be available on both the "regular" Camaro and the RS.
I list the cars and models by body style and engine, so the listing for 1969 might be: coupe V6 convertible V6 coupe base V8 convertible V8 As far as the V8 goes, I have found four options: L34, L35, L78 and L89. Were the Z28, ZL1 and Yenko considered different engine options? Sorry to be so specific, I'm just trying to be accurate. |

They were not V6, they were straight line 6-cylinder engines, L6 is what you should denote them as.
Z28 was a performance package with a special 302 cu. in. engine. ZL1 was an engine option as well as the L72, both with 427 cu. in. engines. They had to be ordered through the COPO program. Yenko was a dealer that put on some extra options on the above mentioned L72 cars so Yenko wasn't an engine option from the factory. Jan

There also was the LM1 in early 69 cars, it was 350 V8 with 255HP. Production info. of that engine is listed in CRG information. It was a 'poor mans' SS... It was not an SS but could be ordered with many of the same SS features, like disc brakes and 12 bolt.

All the engine RPO are listed under the L's in http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#RPOSpreadsheet.
They are also on the ID pages, like http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml So basically a site that shows cars and little general background info each? |

Not sure why someone would go there for the info when its already found in a few reliable places. Your links look like advertisements for Legendary Motors.
