Default How to disassemble bucket seats ? Help !

I have a friend in Texas that wants me to ship him a set of bucket seats; they are original 68 buckets.

I'm in Tennessee, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to ship 'em.

The best way for shipping seems to be to separate the top halves from the bottom halves and ship the tops together in one box and the bottoms together in another box.

How do you remove the top half bucket from the bottom seat ?

I promise I searched for the answer and couldn't even find it in HwyStar's guide to recovering seats.

Its been awhile since I took a pair apart. There are clips on the pins at the hinges. Remove the clips and the tops will pry out far enough to come off the pins. I remember it being harder to pry it out to reassemble. Hop that helps and I am sure some one else will chime in with more info if they have a easier way.

Greyhound is the cheapest and boxing in not required. I've shipped seats and other parts using Fed Ex, UPS and Greyhound. Inner fenders shipped to Memphis using Greyhound were 1/3 the price of others.

I bought a plastic bumper from Ebay for my Camry and they shipped it by Greyhound. All it had was some paper and plastic around it and a signs saying do not drag on the ground because it was plastic. Checkout Greyhound.

At a computer company I worked for, we used to use Greyhound to ship PC's back and forth from Boston and\or NYC if we needed something THAT DAY\NIGHT or the next morning because the buses run constantly. We could have something on a bus late in the evening and get it that night or the next morning. And it was cheap.

If the seat covers are in re-usable shape, I would not just ship them bare. I'd spend the extra on packaging them up. If the seats are being recovered, then it's less of an issue, but I'd still wrap them up in corrugated cardboard.

I shipped a box containing fold down seat parts from Chattanooga to South Dakota for about $120 via Greyhound, Box was about 30 x 30 x 48, and weighed 100 pounds.

By the way, it is not unusual for the spring-clips that hold the seat backs on to the hinge pins to break when you try to pull them off. If the new owner cares about originality, Heartbeat City is the only place I have found that has anything that looks close to the originals. There are other styles of clips that will work just as well and since they are covered by the plastic trim piece once the seats are re-assembled, many won't care what they look like.
