Default Time for new Headers and exhaust...Questions.

Hi all, I need some opinions about headers and exhaust. Here is what I have.
67 Camaro convertible
350 motor with casting # 397001 Date code is J184 (October 18 / 1974)
Head casting # 3998920 ( 350 1972 - 1974 1.94 Intake, 1.5 Exhaust )

700R4 Transmission
3.42 Gears.

Hotchkis X-brace and subframe connectors.

I have done about 2 hours of reading old posts. I am leaning towards Dougs headers or Dynatech headers. I see that Dougs D368 headers fit really nice but do I need 1 3/4" headers? Or would 1 5/8" be better? I might rebuild the engine in a couple of years and would like to see about 350 to 400 HP. I will have to get different heads then.

I am leaning towards the Flowmaster 2.5" 17129 because I think it would fit the best through my hotchkis x-brace. I also have a crossmember from Monster Transmission. I had to dent in one of my current pipes to clear the cross member.

I dont mind if the exhaust is a little loud. It is music to my ears.

I dont want to buy this stuff and then have a headache because of fitment issues. Also I live in western Canada. Who would supply this exhaust? I checked out summit and they want $267.00 to $339.00 shiping for the flowmaster system. Then there would be about $100.00 brokerage fees im guessing. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks, Scott

just installed a set of dynatechs 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 on my 69 camaro and it fit awesome. i have power steering and they fit great not dinging the pipes anywhere. highly recommended!!!!!! plus for 399.99from summit or jegs you get headers ,gaskets, bolts, and very nice collectors with gaskets. you dont get that with any other companies.i have 2.5 flowmaster system with h-pipe it fit great with theses headers and it is little on the loud side but thats the way i like it also.

I bought silver ceramic coated Dynatech headers, reducers, band clamps from Summit Racing. Love the leak-free connection with the ball and socket style connection with the reducers. Dynatech charged separately for the reducers (stainless steel-reason for their band clamps) in 2007. Plenty of clearance. Easy install.

Just looked. In the most recent issue of Summit Racing catalog Dynatech Includes the reducers with the headers. DTC-401-911201 (3" Collector dia) are what I have which are no longer available, probably because they didn't clear most aftermarket tubular crossmembers. DTC-401-911210 is the replacement header and have a 2-1/2" dia collector. Price is $200 cheaper for ceramic! Wish I had waited now.

I have Dynatech on mine 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped and power steering - not fitment issues. Pictures in my profile. I would recomend 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 stepped Dyantech for your 350. The fit and finish is incredible.

I have ceramic coated Hookers 1 5/8 with 3" pipes into Magnaflows. I had Flowmasters for years but needed a change I really like the sound of the Magnaflows. I would not buy Hooker Headers again, I'd run Dynatech's if doing it all over.

There are photos and a couple sound clips at the link below.

Hey Guys thanks for the input. Looks like I will be looking at somewhere to buy a pair of Dynatech headers. I will have to find a canadian supplier. Summit wants a minimum of $231.00 for shipping. Plus tax and brokerage fees. Where do the other Canadians buy thier performance part?

Hey RJ, Nice pics and car!! It looks like you had your exhaust custom made? Looks like it fits good!

Yes, exhaust was done at a local exhaust shop that specializes in muscle cars and hot rods. He dimpled the pipes between the rear springs and chassis just slightly for clearance. He also put in the 2nd collector type unions right after the mufflers so I can drop the entire center section and mufflers should I need to pull the trans out. US cost for mufflers and the custom pipe work was $750.00 and worth every penny.
