Default Big Block Headers,,Which ones ???

I have a 502 using the Hooker headers # 2205. I am looking at changing them when I rebuild my motor. They are the 2" w/ 3-1/2" collectors.

I dont like them because the drivers side sits lower to the ground than the passenger side and my car is low and I have big dents in them now.

Does anyone have the Doug Thorley headers # D320 or # D319.

I will not use a smaller header like the 1-3/4" or 1/7/8" tube. They have to be 2" or bigger.

I do have the big block stands and power steering.

My other option is to have some custom ones made like Lemons but they are pricey.

It's easier to get ground clearance with mid-length or shorty headers.

As far as "frictional losses" or backpressure, a 2" long tube has as much friction as a short tube 1-7/8" dia.

I would use a mid-length header like this:

I used the shorty's on the last 69 I built but these are for a 502 w 8-71 blower so I would like to use long tube headers.

Hooker changed their headers some time ago, so I don't think you would have the same problem.

Dynatech make good headers and I have yet to hear of a complaint.

Most of the problems you hear of, are because of people not using a big block transmission crossmember like they are supposed to !

my 2457 driver and passenger hang down the same. Are you bottoming out on the tubes or the flange?
I can take a few measurements to see how far below the subframe they sit.

Tom,

I was bottoming out on the pipes and flanges but the pipes in the front would be what hit first.

This is an old picture with the smaller tires on it. It sits about 2" taller now.

Pictures and measurements would be great.

Mike - driver side and passenger side with Hooker 2457 header. '69 with correct stands - Energy Suspension mounts

bottom of 2" tubes are 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" below the subframe depending on where you measure - this does not include the flange. Next time I take these off I'd like to cut and re-weld the flange for better ground clearance. hope that helps.

I like the looks of Dynatech headers. The price seems right. I wonder how they fit with power steering?

I went to Dynatech's website , and the only BBC headers they had were 2-1/8 primaries.

That's ridiculous unless the car is a trailered drag car.

The Hookers 2457 - 2" primaries look like the way to go IF you have a BIG BBC like 496-540.

I am planning on buying the Hedman Elite series : 1- 3/4" primaries, 3/8" flanges and made with thick 14 gauge tubing.

On a street car, I think the 1-3/4 primaries would rock and still give good drag strip times.

Mike your car sets lower then mine and my Hooker 2205 are perfect for my ride hight... In your case i would go with Lemons headers because they really tuck up well.
