Default Correct Cancel Cam?

Hi All,

I hoping someone can answer this question....I have a 68 Rally Sport w/ non-tilt sport steering wheel (not orig). My problem seems to be the cancel cam but I can't be sure since they all look alike to me. The cancel cam is a GM p/n 399296. The problem I have is when I put my right turn signal on the horn blows. I'm thinking the diameter is too large but there is no way to tell that from pics. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you have another issue besides the steering wheel diameter. You need to look for skinned wiring insulation in the column, or the harness connector at the base of the column may have a bad splice?

Thanks for the reply Ron. I took the whole column apart yesterday and there are no breaks in the wire or anything. I can actually see the ark between the screw on the turn signal selector and the cancel cam so i know that is where my issue is. I just don't know if its the cam itself or I need to replace the turn signal switch.

This post needs to be moved to the electrical section. That's something I'd have to see to figure out, it seems like the horn contact isn't insulated. I don't know the part numbers so I can't help verify there.

Could be the right one but wrong repop. Someone also reported that the replacement cancel cams are missing a critical ridge that makes these repops prone to a horn misfire issue. Someone either here or on the CRG forum said the "Green" ones from ricks have the correct ridges to prevent horn misfire. I would pull a search here and over at CRG and see what floats out of the pail.

Are you sure that you are using the correct screw to hold the turn signal lever in place? Could the head of the screw you are using be too big? I have heard of the screw backing out and causing the problem you are talking about. I would think that using the wrong screw could also cause the same arcing problem.
