Default 79-82 steering column hi/lo beam repair

I was testing some of my electrical equipment since I am installing all new wiring in my car. In my 69 camaro it has a steering column with the hi/lo beam switch in it. It looks like a column out of a corvette. I think the clicker switch is broken. How hard is it to repair this issue?

Well I verified that the hi/lo in the column must be broke. I unplugged the wiring from the column and installed a foot dimmer switch. Hi/lo beams worked fine.

Switch for high beam is at bottom of column. The "click" is down there. The pivot assembly up top is a common replacement item on these columns. If you have a lock plate depresser tool it's doable. It's been quite some time since I done one.

I must be talking about the pivot assembly then. Because it's my turn signal lever that is sloppy and won't click from hi to lo. Could this assembly cause the turn signals not to work? I unplugged the wiring from the column and used the foot dimmer switch that came in my AAW kit. To verify that I do have hi/lo beams. What does a lock plate depresser tool look like? Are they expensive? Please reach down in your memeory banks and tell me more about fixing it. Is it a b*%#h? Much appreciated.
After looking the tool up on the web. I think I have one in my tool box. Forgot that I even had it. Probably 4-5 yrs since I would have used it. Will I have to take any upper column housing off?
