That homemade tag could result in felony indictments just like the guy with the fake Z16. Nineteen pages about it at T. Chevelle. The car's owner finally got popped. Interesting how people think they can make there own VIN tags and even do whatever they feel like with real ones. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content...y_on_eBay.html

Too bad it looks like a really solid car as far as rust. Priced a bit high in this economy in my opinion though even if it had a good tag. If someone was really interested in the car the thing to do would be to find the hidden VIN & run it to make sure the car isn't stolen and then check with your local DMV to find out the procedure for having a state issued VIN assigned to the car. Here in NH it's pretty simple and is done all the time for kit cars, hotrods, Dynacorn bodied cars, etc. It's a decal the state sticks to the door jamb and that becomes your VIN. Here's one on a custom Harley I built. Sorry for the fuzzy pic. On bikes it goes on the neck of the frame but it's the same decal.

Looking at the cowl tag I can't understand why someone would go to the trouble of making a fake VIN tag that does not even match the cowl tag. The whole thing just looks fishy...

Scott thanks for posting the link to that fraud case. Nice to see that guy selling the car got busted. It's the information from the collector car world that helps authorities in these types of cases.

Car was either in the local paper or on CL (or both, don't remember) pretty cheap about 2 months ago and he went and bought it up quickly.
