Default Engine Block decoding help Requested

I recently purchased a 1968 Camaro, from the VIN and Trim Tag I have confirmed that it came off the line as a 68 hardtop coupe. I am a little baffled by the engine block code: >18 2570 1032 IV.

The first character may be a sideways V or a delta sign. The "2570" is stamped slightly higher. Guessing from the "18" that this is a Chevy V8, but the rest of the characters do not match up as a partial VIN for the vehicle. Hoping someone can help me identify when/where it was manufactured and I am hoping to confirm its pedigree as that 396 big block I was told it was.

Look at the pad again. You are missing some characters. What is the casting number of the block and the date? You can find info here: http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml
Oh... and welcome!

About the only thing that makes any sense with that # is the final IV. An IV would indicate a 1965-1968 Chevrolet 396 cu.in. 325 HP with a turbo 400Trans.

Could be 18_2570_ _ T032_IV. See if you can fill in the blanks Bob.
