I am missing the upper screw in my rear view mirror bracket boot on my 69 convertible. Therefore, the boot hangs out a bit and doesn't look right. I took the boot off to see where the upper screw threads into the windshield frame. I do not see any holes for the screw to thread into. Am I missing a part? The car was this way when I bought it.

I haven't received any responses from forum users so I contacted a friend that has a '69 convertible. He removed his rear view mirror bracket boot and took a picture and sent it to me. There is a hole in the windshield header frame that the screw for the rear view mirror bracket boot threads into. My car is missing that hole. I believe it came from the factory that way as you can still see the hugger orange over spray on the windshiled header frame. Sounds like an easy fix. Has anyone else been able to verify this on thier '69 convertible?

Mine has the hole and no sign of the orig hugger orange paint or the one repaint the car has had (white) in that area. I can't believe even if the hole (which is threaded) was missed they didn't drill it on the assembly line to be able to attach the visor bracket/boot. There is no way the visor bracket would have stayed in place over time without being attached and even if it slipped by assembly the first owner would have taken it to the dealer to have it fixed.
What has been done to the car up to this point that you are finding this?

The car has been painted black and a new black top (originally white) was installed. A different intake and carb were installed as well. I pulled the motor and rebuilt it and put an original part numbered/date coded intake and carb. I just noticed the missing screw this summer and have had the car for 3 years. The lower screw holds the bracket boot in place. The missing upper screw only let the top portion of the boot flop out of the opening a little. That is why I believe I didn't notice it earlier.

LOL... I just had to go look, I had never noticed the other screw hole in the visor bracket/boot. I retract what I said, if the one screw was present it may have held well enough that the other being missing may not have caused a problem at all. I'll have to go find a screw for mine now!

That lower screw would be an easy one to miss if the top screw is in place. Thanks for your feedback!
