Default tall or short deck motors

hello,guys when did chevy make tall deck motors what year did they start and they where only in trucks right ,asking am looking at a 396 the guy says came out a 70s truck but i think they stopped making 396s in 1969 so maybe its a 402 hes getting me the numbers monday night sometime thanks

Mike,
Tall deck engines were in Medium and Heavy Duty trucks only, not pickups. They were either 366 or 427 cubic inches. 396 is a "normal" deck engine.
