I have a aluminum radiator set up with two spal 15" electric fans. I am using their 190 and 200 degree relays and worked fine until i accidently hit the ground wire to the positive side of my battery relay (battery is in the trunk) trying to make a better ground connection. I took out the car the other evening and noticed the engine temp at 220 going up. So i pulled over and found my electric fans not working. I checked the fuses in the spal relay and the power fuse in the box...all three are good. Can anybody give me further advice.....i'm lost?

Not sure about your set up, but my elec fan had a module that the thermostat and everything else fed into. I went through three of them - all of them died on me - before I finally ditched it completely and installed a toggle switch running off a relay and a fuse. Without the module I have to manually flip on the fans but it's so damn hot down here they almost constantly have to on in city drivin anyway.
Have you tested the fans independently yet? If not just pull the lead pos and ground wires, ground the ground and touch the positive to the positive terminal on the battery. If the fan spins, the problem is the fan connection. Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app |

I pulled the connection plug and was able to run the fans by hooking up a wire to negative and positive. When i tried to use the bolt the ground was hooked to for my negative i couldn't get the fan to work. So i loosened and tightened up the bolt and was able to use the bolt as my negative. Now as soon as Irene passes i'll take the car out and see if that worked? Thanks again for your reply Zac

Yeah, stay safe and dry up there!
I just saw a typo in my post. The last sentence should have read, "If the fan spins, the problem is the NOT fan connection," meaning the problem might be in your module somewhere. Depending on how long you have your set up, call the manufacture and see if they can help you trouble shoot. And if it is the module, they might send you a new one... Mine is Flex-a-Lite and they were more than happy to send my new modules b/c I was still under warranty. As I said tho, the modules were all junk though, so new ones weren't much help. Let us know how it turns out. |

My whole setup is spal.
I guess we are right in the cross hairs It's getting very ominous here right now...even our cat is making weird noises walking around the house..i wonder if animals can tell? Anyway here is a picture of my ride i'm slowly building...mind you the interior only has two seats in it nothing else. By the way i go down to visit my brothe often in Houston...his wifes grandparents live in Austin.

Hey Zac,
Was not that bad here on the coast...actually no worse then a good thunder storm with high winds. The Hurricane moved inland and they got hit pretty hard...more with rain then wind. I went down to the beach with my daughter and got some great pictures...i'll post one later when i get back home. Still haven't started the car yet to see if the ground was the problem, i'll do that tonight.
