Question Driveshaft questions.

I have noticed the past few times I have driven my Z that there is a vibration in the drivetrain. I just had 3.73s reinstalled and the shop mech says my driveshaft is not balanced correctly.

When I pulled it out I realize the previous owner had a new shaft made. The yokes are in line with each other. I was curious if this can be corrected to match a factory spec driveshaft without having to buy a new driveshaft.

I also have a driveshaft I plan on using now that seems to have larger cups on the yoke on the pinion side but smaller cups to fit my 12 bolt rear pinion yoke. I need to get a new U-Joint. Wasn't there a Pontiac part number that could be crossed over to aftermarket? I know I did this once before but it was years ago.

Thanks

Sounds like you need to correct some errors made by the prior owner to get back to a base level.
If you have the drive shaft out then drop it off at your local driveline shop and ask them to correct the obvious errors, then check the balance.

Then you can re-install the drive shaft and re-test for vibrations.

I'm thinking that the needed corrections might just make you a happy guy

Picked up NEAPCO #3-3130 at Advance Auto today so the hybrid universal is still being used if anyone stumbles across First Gen. Firebird driveshaft.

Unhappy Re: Driveshaft questions.

Don't count on that part # being exact. It seems I am having trouble with the c clips not wanting to go in.

Still searching for the right u-joint.

Greetings from Arizona
I agree with Wayne, take it to local driveline shop and have it checked, I had same issues with my 69 Camaro, ended up slightly bent tube, had complete new drive shaft made....no more problem, My 67 Elcamino just needed new joints and rebalance. no more problems. When you are using 40+ year old parts, sometime it pays to go the extra mile and get it checked properly. Jay
