I just finished putting everything back together and have a noise coming from the clutch area. With the engine running, I have a whine when the car is in neutral and the clutch not-engaged. When I engage the clutch the whine goes away. I drove about 100 miles this last weekend. The whine is still present, but now when I put it into gear and start to let the clutch out it squeals before it engages into gear.
I have a Muncie 4-speed that was rebuilt and leaks a lot out of the front. Fluid probably has gotten onto the clutch pad. Do you think it’s the clutch pads or the throw out bearing? Do you think it will go away (as in burning or wearing off) or get worse? The clutch was new back in 2006-7 and was driven about 1000 miles with no problems prior to a three year break while I was rebuilding the car. The past three years the clutch, pressure plate, and bearing were sitting on a shelf collecting dust and dirt. I did clean everything with break cleaner prior to putting everything together. Question is do you think it’s likely the pad or bearing? And does it need to be replaced? Do you think it was caused by the oil or sitting for three years? And if it was caused by the oil, how can it be prevented? Thanks Stan

Sounds like a throwout gone bad, oil contamination usually just makes them chatter.
Thank god it's a muncie, easy as pie to get in and out. |
