Understand what your after and building but asking where to purchase a re-stamp kinda goes against the grain of what most consider acceptable. Issue being parts change hands and then they are being sold as original.

If its a clone get an alternator that looks close and restore it and dont worry about the number. If its a clone having an alternator not technically correct should not be a big deal...

68 camaroz-28; just because its unacceptable to you and some others doesn't mean its unacceptable to all-personally, I don't mind a restamp as long as its correct as to its demensionality and font and can't be broken out except by a real pro which means it will pass inspection at any "show and shine" or a local event mabey even a regional. As for getting scammed, I can understand your feelings but its a tough world out there, its not going to get any better, you pay your money and you take your chances-respectfully, Rick

I am building a clone and I agree that the numbers don't really matter that much to a non numbers car, but to each his own. I will try to make mine a visual clone done as well as possible without getting too crazy on the numbers and most of all trying to keep the cost down as searching for correct number parts can add up quickly. Sometimes there are clones that can be built so accurately that it takes someone with extensive knowledge to recognise it. I think clones like original cars should be built to enjoy. The bottom line is that as long as a clone or clone part is not being used to deceive or take advantage of anyone it is all fair play. However I do not support manafacturers of fake parts that contribute to the misrepresentation of our hobby or get used to rip anyone off. Build on my friends.

Respect your opinion; if everyone thought exactly the same, the world would be a very boring place. However, I cannot agree with the concept of building a car with restamped parts - fakes - with the idea of passing it off at a show (local or regional) as the real deal. That's immoral to my way of thinking. Building a clone as a tribute for your own enjoyment, as I believe the original poster of this thread intends, is somewhat different and causes no real harm, assuming that the car's origins are fully disclosed and it is not displayed or sold on as something it is not. As for the world being tough, well we are all big boys and girls and therefore not prone to crying, but the fakers out there that make a living out of their "art" are steadily ruining the enjoyment of the hobby for everyone else.
