Question Which aftermarket oil pan are you SBC guys using?

I'd like to spend around $150, maybe a Milodon or something similar.

Hoping for 1 extra quart of capacity. Original frame and steering setup but steering box is out of a new IROC.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Donnie

I'm running a Moroso 20180 - fits fine, 6 quart pan and it runs about $150. You will need to get the correct pick up tube for it though, but you probalby will for any pan with increased capacity. it does come down about 1/2 inch below the frame on my car, but the headers are lower yet so they would hit something before the pan.

I'm using Summit's: SUM-G3502. It's a 7 quart kick out pan with stock depth and the price is really reasonable.

Thank you so much guys! This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Joe, how low does your pan stick out relative to your headers?

Thanks again,

Donnie

I'm running a Kevko cheater pan. Its a pan that appears stock from the exterior, but it has 2 crank scrapers, trap door and bolt in windage tray. Very nice pan with nice thick metal. $125 with pickup

Thanks, I'll check it out. Is the capacity 5 or 6 quarts?

I hadn't heard of Kevko previously...or do you by chance of the part number? I'm looking on ebay but they don't have any that are identified specifically for first gen camaros..seeing how we have the steering behind the frame.

I used a Moroso 20190 pan with the appropriate pump pickup for a high volume pump.
Very similar pan to Joe's Summit G3502 and headers fit good.
However, since the pan is kicked out, drvr side header has to go into the bay first then the engine.
Or lift the engine up and swing it over to pass side for installation clearance of drvr header.

This is the 2 piece version. I am running the 1 piece version of the pan. They make several styles including one's with kickouts. I just chose the stock style for ease of fitment.

Running similar Summit 7 quart pan on late model block. Fit is good with Hooker super comp headers and no ground clearance issues. Only tricky part is oil changes and getting the oil filter out without making a huge mess. I made a cover out of sheet metal that keeps oil from hitting the header.

I'm using a Moroso 20170 on my current engine build fits good and looks good and its only $100. Has an internal baffle as well...i would put a good oil pump on if you dont all ready have one too

It's a toss up between the kevco and the summit. They're both about the exact same price, the summit comes with 2 extra quarts capacity but will probably make it a little harder to install the headers/engine and change the oil.

The kevco will be stock dimensions so fitment and oil changes will be a breeze but I lose the extra 2 quarts capacity.

Any major advantages to the extra capacity? I may have the car on a road course or auto-x event a few times a year.

Thank you all again for so much help.

Moroso and Summit have the drain plug on the side, very easy to drain oil.
Use a magnetic drain plug.
Use a 3 lb coffee can to cover the headers shielding them from the dripped oil from the oil filter change - may have to use a short filter - the risks we accept when running headers.
Run a windage tray and oil pump baffle - sheet metal plate between the oil pump and main bearing cap - prevents oil from climbing up the block from g-forces.
Install and hang headers first, then install engine - much easier.

I used the Moroso 20191...same as the 20190 except with a built in windage tray. It was probably the best fitting out of the box part I used on my nova. Oil filter changes are a little messy but not bad with a short filter. And like Everett said...headers have to go in before the engine.

I run only 2nd gens,1 small block and 1 big block. There is a good pan out there made by 2 different companies. B&B,and Hamburger. It is a great deal for an oil pan. It is the stock depth give or take a fraction of an inch, and the stock width with no kickouts. Both the front area as well as the sump area are square, not rounded, and the sump is the maximum depth right up to where it meets the higher part in the front. It has a built in mini crank scraper and windage screen, which is all the oil control you want especially with a flat tappet cam. In my big block race car I wish it had a trap door in front of the oil pickup because the pressure drops when I brake hard at the top end and the engine is still spinning 7500rpm. Other then that, the pans are the best deal out there.

This is the bigblock version mounted to the engine in my race car.
