I could not find any reviews regarding checkered racing front suspension setup before I bought it and so I really took a chance.
I have to say that a member of this forum who has the same setup recommended I not purchase this setup, however due to lack of funding I had no other choice. It is by far one of the least expensive front clips for the 67,68,69 camaro. So here is my take on it. Price: 2,295 Product :Complete front sub frame with disc brakes and coil overs Customer service: Do not call the phone number on the website. nobody will call you back or answer. I ordered from Don Fuller (R and R racing) (502)314-3984 and what an awesome guy and great customer service. Don actually got me in contact with the owner right on the spot when he couldn't answer a question. Don called me back on weekends and answered the phone even late at night. Honestly I couldn't have been happier with the customer service. Front suspension description: Overall the design of the clip was well done and welds on the front clip are beautiful. Coil overs: The coil overs are QAL and springs are powder coated silver. the A arms are cheaply painted gloss black. Brakes: The brakes are standard single piston gm calipers. optional willwood are available and im actually upset i didnt pay extra for them cause the price was really good. The rotors are drilled and slotted. steering: the rack is a ford OE thunderbird rack The sway bar: is actually really well done however is painted black. The mounts: This was the downfall of this setup. the mounts that came with the kit are solid body mounts which I did not care for. The bad part is that in order to fit standard 69 body mounts you have to enlarge the holes on the sub frame to get the bushings to fit.. photos below. Engine mounts: NO LS mount available with this kit, only big or small block available. The motor mounts have to be welded in by the user. Also The mount is a solid mount setup so I had to purchase an additional energy suspension small block chevy mount to get away from the solid. Overall the price shipping and customer service were right on the money. Shipping: 250 to a business I would purchase this setup again, however I would ask to see if I could have the mounts drilled for standard mounts. I searched around and it is very difficult to find something that competes with this clip in the same price range. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SOLID MOUNT HOLE AND STANDARD BUSHING (ORDERED SEPERATE) ![]() THE FINISHED HOLE I DRILLED ![]() THE NOTCH IS REQUIRED FOR THE BUSHING TO SIT STRAIGHT. ![]()

Thanks for the review. I have one of these also and I've just bolted it up. Trying to get the clip installed soon. How wide of a front tire do you think is possible with this front end?
Thanks |

I haven't had the time to measure it all out yet. I did however order 18x8 for the front. I did also forget to mention it comes with drop spindles if requested..

Hanging the sheet metal with energy subframe bushings was not good I had to notch the front of the frame an inch and weled 1/2" x 2" x 4" tapped blocks plus bushings under the fire wall to get the front dropped. I had the dropped spindles and sent them back my car sat way to low.Changed the trans cross member to get the exhaust by.Also the alignment was a pain with the control arms that are supplied. It all worked but it takes some tweaking to get it right.I have some of the changes in my profile picks....

I have the dropped spindles and couldnt get a jack under the car. I know what you mean by too low. It was a really tough decision to go with this setup but for the money it was worth it. If I had a car that I 100% sure I was gonna keep I'd a spent more money on something else. But I figured with a review like I've done, people with a limited budget can at least know what they are getting into. And you are right about the a arms. There is so much adjustment I can totally see it taking a little longer to setup. Overall scale 1-10 ten being extremely happy. I'm probably at a 6. I think if I knew it came with solid mounts and the fabricator did that work ad opposed to me. I'd be at an 8.

What advantages are gained by going with this subframe? I don't think I would be too happy to have to re drill the frame mounts after spending that much money. Do you have to drill the mounting holes for the core support also?

I was looking at those UCA's and was going to ask about that. It looks like you have to remove the mounting bolts to adjust them. Also it looks like camber is easy enough but that they might bind if caster has to be adjusted too much.

When you take it to get it aligned make sure your guy has patients because it time consuming caster and camber can be achieved but it will take a minute.
