Default Better Battery? Interstate or AC Delco

Hi there,

Which battery would you go for on an SS 396 67 machine? The Interstate MT-24 or the AC-Delco ACD-2460?

Both have the flush caps setup so I can put my replica round cap top on there to make it realistic...

Thanks,

Gordon

I have had very good luck with AC Delco's in my Daily drivers.

The Interstate has 630 and AC Delco has 600...Interstate's warranty is a lot longer at 5 years than AC Delco's basic 2 years...

There have been a lot of AC Delco problem posts... I used Interstate for a long time. The Marathon was the last one I went with although have used others. The problem was when I need a replacement for the factory battery in my daily I was out of town driving long distance. I wanted an Interstate and couldn't find one so I got a jump start and drove several hundred miles of my trip stopping and looking for an Interstate with no luck. When I got to my destination (Las Vegas) I spent several days calling and driving around in my dads car looking for an Interstate... Even their web page couldn't help me locate their products. Ended up with something else! When I got home I wrote Interstate and even they couldn't help me, then I saw a big Interstate Battery Truck and found the Interstate Store here in San Jose. I talked to someone about it and it seems most of the places they distribute to are small local repair shops and a lot of them are not open Sat/Sun. The Interstate truck is kinda like a Snap-on tool truck, they have shop accounts and service a route. All the major chain parts store have dropped them...

I'm really torn by this the Interstate in the Nova has been there for 6 years and was not brand new when I bought the Nova. It has never failed to start and the Nova has sat for 4 months several times over the years. No tender, no needing a jump etc. The module went out on the Nova's HEI and I killed the charge trying to start the engine thinking I flooded it. Got things figured out and charged it up and no other issues. I'm sold on Interstate but if I can't find one when I need it their warantee doesn't do any good and I end up with someone elses battery.

Sorry for the long story but I spent hours dealing with and researching and wanted to share.

Hey Dennis,

Yes, I'm leaning towards the Interstate as I've had a few before and they've never failed unless there was a charging problem from the car. I'm sure Interstate is expanding quickly as Joe Gibbs racing has been with them for a long time.

Thanks,

Gordon

Interstate batteries are in all my car's and have been great and trouble free! All i have used and plan on using they are just reliable and if you have an issue their replacement warranty is a breeze!

I have a three year old Interstate MT78DT, out of eight I've owned, gone bad, only holds a 12.2 volt charge, but still cranks the 454 in starting, 8 volts.
Its twin, 2003, setting in the trailer battery tray on the truck, still holds a 12.55 volt charge.
Exercising the battery is the key for a long life.

My vote would be Interstate have bought 2 each one for my wife's dd and one for my pickem up truck that sits alot and has only been driven 14000 in 5 years. So far no matter how long it sits.. Weeks at a time it cranks right over. I went to buy one for my sisters dd and the private auto parts store stopped carrying them. Said they got screwed on warranty transactions too many times by interstate (not the customer but him the retailer).

I've had good luck with the AC-Delco Professional Series model #24-7YR batteries; just changed the one in my '69 Z/28 after 12 years, and my '67 Corvette has one in it from 11 years ago, still going strong.

Johnson Controls makes the Interstate brand and some of the AC Delco models.....and about a hundred other brands. They also make the EverStart MAXX sold by every Wal-Mart in the country. Got one of those in a couple cars and one in a motorcycle. Manufacturer info is usually on the label and they make different quality levels within the brands.

May have to look for "Professional Series" for my 97 SS. When the current AC Delco craps out.
