When I found this car, the story was the guy had the car for sale for a "while" on craigs list, he said several people had looked at the car but told him it wasn't a real Z/28 because it had no X code. Well fortunately for me there are a lot of "experts" out there.
The car had been sitting for approx 8-9 yrs he wasnt sure. But the master cylinder had failed and he never got around to fixing it. He had bought it from a now closed used car dealer in 73. At that time it was yellow with black stripes, he painted on the red and gold. After looking over the car very carefully, it became obvious it was a real Z with the matching #'s engine, trans and rear end. Having the body in such great shape was a bonus, so, we struck a deal. He had no paperwork of any kind. Ill try to post some more pictures in the condition it was found in. Brad |

Now being a dash paint code we had no idea of the original color.
So we peeled back a door panel and the molding...... |

Could you please submit the car's TT and VIN data to Kurt at CRG? Information on this car will be of interest to others there as well. I can't tell what the original color is from the photo, but I would not paint it any color just because it has a dash on the TT. But it is ultimately your decision.

Great find! Congrats! Try lightly sanding through the layers to see the colors of each. a dash might mean stripe delete too.

Under the driprail weatherstrip molding and doorsill plates. Or saddlebags if the nose was not removed for painting. And anywhere else paint is not usually applied when color is changed.

Great find - Nice to know these cars are still out there, as long as you know what to look for. Congratulations!

A dash simply meant "special paint code" and was designated as seen in the chart below: see this link for more info:
http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#T:SpecialPaint Cowl Tag Examples for Special Paint Paint Vinyl Top/Convertible ----- --------------------- 1967 NOR/LOS O-O O-2 1968 early NOR Z Z Z 2 LOS Z-Z Z-2 1968 late NOR - - - 2 LOS --- --2 1969 NOR/LOS - - - B ------------------------------------------- (1) Note that black tops are shown in all the examples. (2) CRG isn't clear at this time how a 1967 "stripe delete" car was marked. Stripe delete was considered "special paint" in 1968-69. (3) In 1967 only, a dash can follow the standard option codes at the bottom of the cowl tag. This dash may appear by itself or it may precede a Fleet & Special Order (F&SO) code. This dash has been observed on all known special paint cars. It is believed that this dash indicated that there were special instructions (the F&SO paperwork) available for the vehicle. The dash would also be on vehicles ordered as part of a fleet.
