Hey, newbie here.

I just bought a 89 RS the guy I bought it from changed the Ignition tumbler and threw out the old one so now I have no way of testing the resistance for the VATS. I really dont want to take it to the dealer and am kind of stuck at this point since the car has a bad head gasket (So the previous owner claims) so does anyone here have a suggestion?

Thanks,
Cj

I don't think you need to take it to the dealer. Just provide proof of ownership and the VIN.# and they will tell you what the resistor number is. Maybe a small fee depending on the dealer. There has been a lot of thefts related to this type of information so don't be surprised if you have to jump through a few hoops to get what you need.

Might take you a while to do it, but check out the 7th post on this thread:

http://www.camaros.net/cgi-bin/forum...c/10/716.html?

Get the resistors (or get a potentiometer) and try them one at a time till the car starts, then go out and get a new ignition key with the right pellet.

Mark,
Thanks for the info. I have got the pot and am trying the values listed in the post you linked. So far no go, but I am working on it.

I went to the dealer and they said they they dont have the listing for anything prior to 90, and that I need to have a locksmith come plug into the VATS madule and get the codes from there.

Still working on getting the right resistance though.
