Having a debate with a friend and I don't know the answer.

Question - do ALL SS cars have the gauge clusters and the tach in place of the gas gauge? Or was that a specific option?

Any help would be appreciated.

Was optional only (RPO U17) up until sometime in 69, May I believe, then was included with Z/28. Never was included with any SS (L48, L35, etc) package, but optional on any v8 Camaro with console.

You're welcome. Here's a little tidbit you might find interesting....

White Book shows 27,078 67Camaros were factory fitted with U17....$79

Then price increased to $94.80 in 68....20,263 Camaros sold with U17.

From what I've seen, the majority of 68Z's didn't have a factory tach or gauges !

Another factoid: Disc brakes weren't part of the SS package until 69. Only on Z28 were they mandatory. They were optional on all others (V8 and I6).

AAAAAnd,,,, as I recall there were about 450 options. One could deck out their car and may never see another just like it. Now days there's about 3 options. My new Denali dually is available is 3 colors; White, black and Gray. What makes these short-list bearable is most items are now standard.
