I finally have a first gen. I went with the 68 due to disliking the 69 cluster and the 67 vent windows. Happy. Now to make it a daily driver I have some issues to deal with. Up first is that when it rains water comes from the cowl down the passenger side to the floor pan; Not drips either but all of it! So, I'm to clean out the squirrel nest that made its way in there over the years and cover with rust bullets to prevent any (more) cancer but how do I keep the water from coming in? It seems that it was designed for air flow into the cabin not water! Any ideas?

Well, atleast it isn't the drivers side. You need to rip...er, pull the kick panel out and re-seal. They use a heavy gray putty (dum-dum) applied around the vent opening.
Don't matter what year, kickpanel removal can be a bee-otch on all of them. The good news is, I don't think anybody has broke one yet !

It's the drivers side too; one step at a time I suppose... Think I should coat with "rust bullets" while I'm at it?

I'm not familar with "rust bullets", but yeah, do what ya gotta do. Access is pretty limited. I've had good luck Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator (formerly Corroless). Lotta folks like POR 15.
Gotta remove the E.brake mechanism on the drivers side...
