i have a 67 camaro with the 67 console. i do not want to use the original shifter due to it being ugly. i want to know if there is a aft. shifter that will fit in the console without cutting the console up. i am running a 400 turbo. will a 96-97 camaro shifter work? any suggestions would be appreciated

Matt - you will find it is less of a question of what shifter will fit as to which stick will. Hurst aftermarket shifters will fit a 67, but you need the right degree of raked stick to clear the console. Start by doing a search here using the Google option with key works Hurst stick 67 you will find a detailed thread where the sticks and stamp numbers are listed for 67 factory consoles. If you can't find it send me a pm and I'll pull it from my bookmarks when I get home.

There have been some done, myself I usually don't reply with do a search but you might have to since I have no idea what the post is called that was showing different aftermarket shifters installed in stock consoles. My personal opinion is most of them look like ugly. I have seen a 68 console sold on E-bay that uses a Hurst gated shifter that looks kick azz but I would never put a 68-69 console in my 67...LOL!!
I just went with a floor shifter and no console.......looks ok until I figure out something else or it grows on me. I can say I like the shifter and how it shifts!! It's nice to bang a gear and not worry about it going up or down more than you want. I will reserve my final judgment until I get carpet and go from there. I know not exactly what your looking for but figured I would post an option since your not in love with the stock shifter. ![]()

I plan on using a 68/9 console in my 67 'Bird. I'll use a B&M Quicksilver shifter. Will need to make a new plate to cover the shifter opening. Do some searches on here and Pro Touring. A few people have adapted shifters to the 68/9 consoles and they look pretty good. Unless you want to keep the console stock.

There is a company that makes a kit that turns your original factory shifter into a ratchet shifter like B&M while allowing for a stock look. The kit has the necessary parts to do a 2-speed powerglide, 3-speed th350 or th400, or four speed automatics like the 700R4.
I'll get the info and post it later. |

This would look good if you could make it fit a 67. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-69-CAMA...e07071&vxp=mtr

thank you but i am looking for something that will fit in the original shifter hole without modifications to the hole or console, i want to say i saw a 96-97 shifter stick in a 67 console at a show but i have slept since then. the ebay shifter is cool but it won't fit the 67 console without cutting

There are other versions of the same shifter that might be adaptable without cutting your console. I don't even know what a 67 console looks like though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/68-69-TRANS-...item4d000229ab

Those are the consoles I was thinking of. The 67 style looks ok but would look better with the shifter level with the console in my opinion. It looks like mods could be done to make that work. I have thought about trying a 67 with no shift plate over my quick silver and then see what it would take to have a new metal insert fabbed up to fit it using some of the stock parts....basically just the handle coming through. I have not found a cheap enough 67 console to work with though...LOL!!
