One of my 69 Camaros have BIG Drum Brakes on the rear end.
Yesterday I was Looking in Classic Industries Catalog and find the same Brakes, Police Brakes. Its a BV Rear End. Could you Order Police Brakes from Factory in 68-69? Its a Old Drag Racing Car and its probably not Original. |

It says in Classic Ind that you got to have 15" wheels.
Does this mean that only Z/28 and COPO 9737 could Order it? |

I could be wrong but I don't believe those big rear brakes were an option in '69.

My Z had small drums on the rear. I did howver change hem to big drums. I think all rear drums back then were smooth. Does your car have smooth or ribbed drums? I'm sure someone will be able to answer for sure on the smooth or ribbed drums .

The Big Brakes are Ribbed all way not like front Drums.

Post a picture of end of the axle tubes.
I am thinking it might be an Impala rear axle, restamped with BV.

Better for foot braking - probably swapped on.

Yes your right, that was what I thought earlier.
it was just that Classic ind wrote that it was for Camaro 67-81. Last edited by Nikke; Feb 2nd, 13 at 11:36 AM. |

As I rember no Camaro's came with the big brake kit. I have owned eighteen Camaro's " most second gen" and never seen it from the factory. Some station wagons, Impalla's, Malibu, and BOP cars did, but not Camaro's. Clasic sells the same kit for 62-67 Chevy two cars as well.

Pretty sure that's just a re-package of the MP Brakes 11" drum upgrade kit;
http://www.mpbrakes.com/products/pro...product_id=493 As far as I know, no camaro ever came with the 11" drums, but they were available on all sorts of other GM products, mostly cars with a lot of weight in the rear (wagons, el camino, etc.) For folks playing along at home, there is a VERY good article over on NastyZ which documents the parts needed to do this if you wanted to do it on your own: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54675 |

all 75-77 Monte Carlos had the 11" drums stock. probably also on Chevelles, ElCaminos, and every other A body at that time, too.
the "big brake" kit that a few place sells is just a package of stock replacement parts for these cars and they are really easy to swap in place of the stock drums..

It could be a real BV rear. I can't say one way or the other. The pics I wanted to see were of the END of the axle tube, right next to the backing plate. Is the tube full size in that area or does it get smaller toward the end?
It is possible that the bigger brakes were put on, but I would think they would have put on rear disc brakes if they were going to swap things out.
