What would be a adequate cooler size for a T-400 without running it in series with the radiator? Stand alone cooler. I have a 15X7X 1/2" but it seems small. They say for 15K GVW vehicle but I'm assuming that's running it in series with radiator.
Any thoughts? I'll be putting it in front of this radiator.

I never run my coolers through the rad. If it goes through the rad your trans temp will get no lower than the temp of your engine coolent. Temp is the killer of an auto trans. If you are not running a large stahl converter it should be fine.

Take a look at the B&M stacked plate supercoolers. Looks like you have tons of room so I'd get a biggen. Depending on how you plan to run the piping, they have either hose barb or NPT fittings. 15 x 7 x 1/2" is pretty good sized - but you didn't say if tube & fin or stacked plate. I believe the stacked plate are more effective.

I know, stevo who. LOL
![]() Been working on the 454 car again, making lots of progress. No high stall converter. It's a Hayden tube & fin cooler. I have 2 laying around the shop and will use one if adequate. I've got the hard lines off the trans running to the bottom of radiator and would just run short lengths of hose to the barbed ends of the cooler. Here's a newer pic of the beast. LOL

Add the cooler, but fill it from the bottom to purge out the air in the cooling tubes.
Yes, you can use the trans hoses, Hayden and B&M make them. Just change them every four years, like we righteously do with the cooling hoses...
