I'm looking to pick up a 69 camaro roller. What do you guys think is a fair price to pay for one with a clear title and multiple parts missing?
I've seen a few that were missing complete interiors asking 5K. I've also seen scraps of sheet metal in the vague shape of a car asking 3K! I'm looking for a car that needs a total resto. Missing parts and what not is not a big deal to me but a title and solid frame rails are. Any advice or words of wisdom? Thank you, ~Jim~ |

Depends if it is a SS or Z-28.....if it is a base 6 cylinder roller with clear title I would be suprised if it brings 3K, even if it needs lots of metal replaced.
'69 Camaros are some of the most desireable old cars out there ya know.

I'm fine with a plain Jane 6 cylinder car. For what I plan to do with one I don't want a nicer optioned car anyway. Just seems crazy that people are paying over 3K for these basket cases, unless there is something I'm missing. Hell, there are guys getting 3-5K for bill of sale cars!

All depends on where you live- down here in GA, a rusted out 69 with no drivetrain and a rough interior gets 20 phone calls within an hour of being listed on Craiglist for $5k.

Jim,
They quit making real '69 Camaros a long time ago. I know it seems out of line for a heap to bring 5K but remember these are very desireable cars, almost everything is reproduced or available for them, and they have value. FWIW I have paid in excess of 5K for rolling heaps and I was happy to do so! LOL.

Well nothing like a big dose of reality to ruin your day.
So what should I expect to pay for a car with solid rails and title? ~Jim~

I just got one, your gonna pay at least 5k I think. I paid far more but I bought a rust free car with a 12 bolt rear, with a brand new muncie and sb 350.

I would look o buy a complete or close to complete car to start a project from. The one pictured will sell IMHO for over $15k easy.

I've rebuilt a few cars and worked on countless others and I fully understand the "cubic dollars" theory.
Always loved the 1st Gens and once I dig into one I have no plans on getting rid of it. This one will be a keeper. 69Z: I sent you a PM thanks for the heads up. Vega: 15K seriously? There are some solid cars out there with bad paint jobs that drive for 15K. If that's truly the market then I'm going to start looking at the more expensive cars 20-30's and make my changes. It seems crazy to me that the major projects are "worth more (based on what looks to be invested in it)" than the completed cars. You guys have been real helpful. Thank you, ~Jim~

Jim I wouldnt be surprised by 15k at all, I paid 9300 for my car and it was complete without the interior and no rust, no panels needing ti be replaced. Not to mention its been undercoated and Im sure the subframe and other under pieces will be treated to prevent corrosion. That will save a lot of time and money for whoever gets this car. Just my thoughts, they are probably right however. I was in a similar boat and elected to spend around 10k for a mostly complete car. I had to turn around and buy an interior but I think it will be worth it considering what my car needed and still needs to be complete. Just make sure anything major you want to do to your car ensure that its not already done i.e. if you want an ls motor try to stick to getting a roller with no engine or drivetrain. If you know what suspension you want, dont get a car with new stocks suspension. This way you will avoid paying for extras on a car you dont intend to use. I hope this helps.

The one mentioned in the thread has a lot of work invested. Would pay $15k and walk away with a big smile for sure. When looking buy the BEST body you can find/afford and the most complete car and you'll be way better off. The absolute best deal is a project someone else has invested a ton into and as decided to sell unfinished.
